Hello Sarkie! I hope you’re doing well. Do you happen to know why some pet colors were discarted, like the unicorn and lutari (lutari paint brush)? I’ve heard a speculation that the unicorn was discarted due the cration of the Uni, but I would like to know more about that. I’m also curious if you have any comments on the Scrapped pet designs, like the Mutant Aisha (the pink one with “popped” eyes) 😀

Unicorn was before my time (if I remember right) but I think that was the reason, yeah. That’s what I’ve heard anyway. That it was more like a species brush rather than a colour so it got canned and Uni instead.
I also wasn’t usually involved in scrapped pet design decisions unless it made it past the art director and we then rejected it in our approval stage. But either way, the reason is going to be different for every design so it’s hard to answer this question overall! For example, it could be a design was too simple for the level of the particular brush, or a better idea was had by another artist, or even we just didn’t like it. Heh. I can’t say I remember for sure for that Mutant Aisha, but I have a guess! I think it might have been too off-the-wall. Mutant is supposed to be a bit twisted and scary, and that one was more just weird (and a bit too aquatic, I think). So the art director probably had them try another version.
I would have been involved with the Lutari Paint Brush, thought! Except I don’t remember exactly what happened with that. ?♀️ I remember there were a lot of logistical concerns around the name being confusing, already having Island, and the overall theme itself. But I don’t remember exactly why we finally abandoned it.
