Do you have any information on the function of the old beads from Lutari Island? The function of two kinds were pretty obvious from the messages they gave when increasing game scores or haggling a reduction in stores, but the other two were never really found out. Mostly curious if the rumour one colour originally increased RE chances was true and, if so, if that chance carried over in the RE overhaul that happened later?
Oh dang, I don’t remember at all. That was such a small/quick feature that it doesn’t stand out in my memory. And I don’t have any documentation that would refresh that memory, sadly. I imagine we didn’t even have to write a doc for it since it was so simple, to be honest.
I asked some folks that might have known at one point and they don’t remember either. ?
For the RE revamp portion: I poured through the random event code at the time to make sure we got every possible feature and bonus and event and effect accounted for in the documentation and there’s no bead frequency bonus listed in the doc at all. (There are others, that I won’t list, but nothing about beads being one of them.) So at the very least, if it was a thing, it doesn’t seem like we carried it over? There’s always the possibility that Mr. Insane did find it in the code while building the new system and brought it over himself but it’s unlikely given how that project went.
There’s also a very slim chance they do nothing. As in, 1) we intended to add functionality but didn’t get to for any number of reasons. Or 2) we did add functionality but it was bugged and no one ever realised. There are examples of Neopians collectively just not being able to figure things out after a long while but, more often than not, it turned out to be bugged.
Anyway, seems like you’d need the team to look at the bead code and tell you (if they wanted to give it away). Sorry I can’t be of more help!
