My Very Own Planet Express Ship

"Nobody loves you because you're tiny and made of meat."

Years ago, Harrison Krix over at Volpin Props posted that he wanted someone to commission a Futurama Holophonor from him. I missed the boat on that and will regret it to my dying day. (He has photos of the finished piece up in his portfolio if you want to lament along with me.)

Fortunately, when he later posted a bunch of spaceships he’d like to make, including Ol’ Bessie here, I jumped at it and he was kind enough to oblige. It’s funny; even though spaceships tend to be my favourite “character” from a lot of shows/movies — Serenity, anyone? The Millennium Falcon?! — I’d never thought about having a replica made of the Science-Mobile. Now I have one of my very own, though, and it’s glorious. See for yourself.

She’s 1:50 scale, complete with lights in the tail fin, landing staircase, and engine. In fact, the engine actually pulses like it does in the show. I honestly can’t even. He has more photos, a video of the lights, and a whole progress write-up over on his website if you’d like to see how she came to life.

Sadly, I don’t have a place for her in my current townhouse right now and she’s back in her box, but these photos of her set up in my old place still make me giddy so there they are. I’m in love forever.

They’re from Kid Robot! I don’t think they actually make them anymore but you could probably still find them on eBay or something. There are a few I still need to round out my collection. 🙂
